Most digital signal processing algorithms are developed using floating-point arithmetic, however they are implemented on fixed-point digital signal processors for the sake of hardware cost, speed, and power consumption. However, programming fixed-point algorithms is more complex and has many additional issues to be considered. The main objective in the implementation process is minimizing the finite wordlength effects. In this thesis a dynamic range tool is explained that can aid scaling and wordlength determination of digital signal processing algorithms written in CC++. After explaining the basic background of fixed-point arithmetic and the fixed-point tools, the thesis describes the design and implementation of each function in the fixed-point math library and uses examples for illustration.
